At the Long Museum, Shiota Chiharu Deeply Touches the Soul

Shiota Chiharu: The Soul Trembles, an itinerary project in collaboration with the Mori Art Museum, is the largest and most complete exhibition ever dedicated to this important Japanese artist in China, a journey through her entire artistic production. Known for her performances and installations which focus on the territories of memory and identity with a strong dreamlike dimension, the artist who, for years, has lived in Berlin, has fascinated the world with her iconic and powerful installations, on display in some of the most prestigious homes to art around the world. Particularly noteworthy are her works made up of black and red threads which occupy entire spaces, creating stunning structures. The exhibition’s subtitle The Soul Trembles refers to the sincere hope of the artist to offer the public an experience that reaches the depths of their souls, offering universal sentiments. For this journey through twenty-five years of the works of Shiota Chiharu, the minimalist spaces of the Long Museum will be illuminated by large installations, as well as sculptural works, performance videos, photos, drawings and archival materials. The show is curated by Mami Kataoka, director of the Mori Art Museum.
